This year the Scottish Tour was playing away in Northumberland and Scottish Borders. A great choice with excellent roads to test the cars and drivers. A good selection of quattros of various generations: A4, RS3, RS5, S1, S3 and of course the original quattros known as “Ur”.
We all met in the afternoon on Thursday 24th at the Hotel in Cardrona for the traditional tea and cakes, was great to see everybody, the usual suspects and of course the newcomers.
On the first night before dinner, we had the full presentation of the Tour by Stephen and “Routemeister” Keith. At the end of the evening we were split in 3 groups for the Friday and Saturday drives with 3 respective leaders.
Day 1 was The Borders, quick off time 09h00 for the first group. The weather was looking good and in fact was really good for the whole day. As usual, mid-morning we had our coffee stop, time to catch up with all quattro news. After the rest, we had a spirited drive to Paxton House for our lunch stop after a 110-mile drive.
We were able to park the cars in front of Paxton House just before lunch. Andrew Short came with his drone to take some pictures of all the cars as well making a short video of the occasion.
In the afternoon we visited the Jim Clark museum which has been totally refurbished since our last visit over 10 years ago, well worth it.
Day 2 we crossed over the border. We arrived quite early for our coffee stop at The Old School Café Bistro. Was a bit cold outside but cake and coffee brought the temperatures up. Lunch was at the Greenhead Hotel after having driven around 80 miles, easy morning and superb driving yet again.
In the afternoon a 105 mile-drive to get back to Cardrona. Keith had prepared an interesting route where one could test all the quattro’s abilities either original or modern, again good weather.
In the evening before dinner we all met at the bar for pre-dinner drinks.
The organisers of the Tour were duly presented with a token of our appreciation, thank you all.
All in all, an excellent Tour from every point of view, looking forward to the next one. The organisers did as always a great job and the driving was just amazing for any type of quattro.
